by Gian Carlo Menotti

Chelsea Opera presents...Gian Carlo Menotti's psychological thriller The Medium.
A thrilling blend of mysticism and madness. Madam Flora's sham seances come back to haunt her in this intimate and unique staging. Sung in English.

September 18th, 2021
Chelsea Opera presents:
Sidewalk Serenade

An on-site Chelsea Opera experience, this world premiere features Quinn and Emery, two romantic hopefuls meeting on a Syracuse sidewalk after matching on a dating app. To the accompaniment of a street musician, first-date jitters are expressed in song, turning an awkward conversation into flirtatious fun! In a modern twist, rotating gender pairings bring a fresh approach to operatic love. Soprano Sarah Daniels and tenor Brad Bickhardt* alternate in the role of Quinn, with soprano Andrea Bickford and baritone CJ Roche alternating in the role of Emery. Dan Williams performs as the street musician accompanist. The piece was commissioned by Chelsea Opera with music composed by Oswego native and Penn State music composition major Leah Mullen, with lyrics and direction by Syracuse resident and Chelsea Opera Producing Artistic Director - Garrett August Heater. Chelsea Opera President and Co-Founder Leonarda Priore is the producer.

The 10-minute comic opera will appear outdoors and free of charge at Epicuse (12:00 PM & 2:00 PM, 334 S. Salina St.), the 24-Second Shot Clock (12:30 PM & 2:30 PM, 400 block of S. Franklin St.), Perseverance Park (1:00 PM & 3:00 PM, 205 S. Salina St.), and Wildflowers Armory (1:30 PM & 3:30 PM, 217 S. Salina St.) on Saturday, September 18th, 2021 (rain date, September 19th). Opera patrons may receive a free cheese tasting with the purchase of a cocktail at Epicuse, as well as 10% off any purchases at Wildflowers Armory. Patrons wishing to view the opera with all four possible couplings should attend the performances consecutively from
1-2:30 PM.
